The Marikina City Park Chess Club Inc. (MCPCCI), in partnership with the Marikina High School Alumni Association – Samahan ng mga Nagtapos sa Mataas na Paaralan ng Marikina (MHSAA-SNMPM), the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), BigMac, Pande Amerikana Marikina, and the GM Eugene Torre Chess Museum Marikina, proudly present the 1st Grandmaster Dr. Eugene Torre Open Standard Chess Tournament, to be held on August 30–31, 2026 at the Marikina Sports Center.
This FIDE-rated event follows the time control format of 60 minutes per game plus 30 seconds increment per move.
Champion: ₱20,000 + Trophy and Certificate
2nd Place: ₱15,000 + Trophy and Certificate
3rd Place: ₱10,000 + Trophy and Certificate

Join this historic tournament as a tribute to Grandmaster Dr. Eugene Torre, the first Grandmaster in Asia, in recognition of his remarkable achievements and lifelong contributions to chess in the Philippines and across Asia.
The event is supported by Grandmaster Dr. Eugene Torre, Marikina City Mayor Marjorie Ann "Maan" Teodoro, Representative Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro, and the Marikina City Council.
This exciting event aims to promote chess and other board games as valuable tools for education, youth development, character building, healthy recreation, and community unity. It is expected to gather hundreds of students, amateur and professional chess players, alumni, families, educators, and sports enthusiasts from Marikina and neighboring cities, while showcasing Marikina as a premier destination for sports, culture, tourism, and community events.
