IM Arca to see action in 28th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2026 in Shenzhen,China

International Master Christian Gian Karlo Tade-Arca is set to represent the Philippines in the upcoming 28th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2026 will take place in Shenzhen, China, from July 15 to 25. The prestigious continental tournament, organized by the Chinese Chess Association under the auspices of FIDE and the Asian Chess Federation.

The 17 year old Arca, a student of Ramon Enriquez High School, Zamboanga City under the watchful eye of School Coach School John Paul Flores Tardo, is fresh from the magnificent performance in the recently concluded FIDE World Team Rapid and Blitz Team Chess Championships in Hongkong.

In the Rapid event, Arca scored an impressive 8.5/11, registering a performance rating of 2575 and gaining an astounding 164 rating points. His only loss came against former World Rapid Champion GM Volodar Murzin of Russia. His big wins against Faustino Oro of Argentina, one of the youngest grandmasters in history and

GM Mukhiddin Madaminov of Uzbekistan, who is fresh from winning the UzChess Cup Masters. He held a fighting draw against GM Alexander Motylev of Romania and GM Xu Yi of China.

In the blitz event, Arca defeated GM Levon Aronian of the USA and GM Nihal Sarin of India.

According to proud father Arman Arca, his son has long been looking for a private company or corporate sponsorship to shoulder the expenses and fast track his dream of becoming the next Grandmaster of the Philippines and the first Grandmaster from Mindanao and continually compete against elite players in the world stage.-Marlon Bernardino-
