Ronald Stacey King, 59, a three-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls, died on Sunday, June 7.
King was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, on January 29, 1967, and was an American basketball player and coach who played for eight seasons in the NBA, winning three championships with the Chicago Bulls. Standing 6'11" (2.11 meters) tall, he played center.
King was a key figure in the Bulls' dominance during the 1990s, entering the league as the sixth overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft. He remained with the franchise during its most dominant period before joining the Timberwolves for the 1993-94 season.
Given the Bulls' storied history, he was a valuable asset on a roster that included names like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen during their first three-peat in 1991, 1992, and 1993. In his rookie season, for example, he played all 82 games off the bench and averaged 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. The Bulls would go on to win another three-peat (in 1996, 1997, and 1998), but without King on the team.
After retiring from playing, King remained involved in basketball as a commentator for Bulls TV, a role in which he became even more widely known for his charisma.
