Filipino Alex Eala won her second Women's Tennis Association (WTA) title on Sunday evening (Manila time) after beating Nikola Bartunkova of the Czech Republic in a hard-fought three-set thriller, 5-7, 6-3,7-5, in 2 hours and 37 minutes in the Lexus Birmingham Open at the Edgbaston Priory Club in the United Kingdom.
This impressive performance follows a strong string of victories, including her reaching a WTA Tour final at the Eastbourne International and winning her first WTA title at the Guadalajara 125 Open in Mexico in September 2025.
Bartunkova is the first player from the Czech Republic that Eala has defeated in her pro career.
Eala, ranked No. 37 in the world, downed Rebeka Masarova of Switzerland, 6-2,4-6,6-3, (semis); Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand, 6-3,6-2, (quarterfinal);Alina Charaeva of Russia, 6-2,7-5, (Round of 16); and Priscilla Hon of Australia, 6-0,6-2, (Round of 32).-Marlon Bernardino-
