Cebuano Elmo Traya Eyes WBF World Title in Georgia

Mandaue City’s Elmo "Money Punch" Traya is ready for war. Traya (16-6, 11 KOs) weighed in at 72 kilos for his 12-round main event against Georgia’s Givi Todua (5-4, 2 KOs), who came in at 72.45 kilos.

They clash Saturday, May 2, at the New Olympic Sports Palace in Tbilisi for the vacant World Boxing Federation Middleweight World Title.

Coming off a tough loss last October in Bangkok, the 31-year-old Traya is hungry for redemption. He sees this bout with 21-year-old Todua as his shot to roar back into the win column.

Traya prepared in the high altitude of Baguio City, the “City of Pines,” training under former GAB Super Light Champion and coach Alan Alegria Sr. The work has been focused, disciplined, and relentless.

Fighting in enemy territory is nothing new for the Cebuano. He has battled in Poland, Thailand, and the UAE. Georgia won’t faze him. Traya is coming for the belt. The world title showdown is sanctioned by the World Boxing Federation under President Howard Goldberg of South Africa, in partnership with the Georgian Professional Boxing Union.

Cebu's Elmo Traya (L) and Georgia's Givi Todua face off during Friday's weighin.

Traya vs Todua — the battle of the T’s. If we get LIVE broadcast info, we’ll share it. Best of luck to our Cebuano warrior Elmo "Money Punch" Traya. Laban Pinoy! 🇵🇭👍🥊
