T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas -- In a 10 round Junior middleweight bout (late replacement 2 weeks ago) Cuban Yoenis Tellis (6-0, 5KOs) in his only 6th professional fight stopped Spaniard Sergio Garcia (34-3, 14KOs) in the 3rd round via TKO.
Garcia was the busier fighter in round 1 and seemed to outwork his lesser experienced opponent (Tellis) who worked behind his jab. Tellis patiently worked behind the jab in round two picking his spots. In the 3rd round Garcia came out apparently overconfident and Tellis placed a well timed left hook to Garcia's temple followed by a perfect right hand to the chin that had Garcia stumbling around the ring visibly hurt. Tellis looked to close the show with more right hands flooring Garcia. Garcia beat the count, but protested while being given the count by the referee. After allowing the fight to continue Tellis closed the show with a barrage of punches. With no offense coming from Garcia the Referee waved the fight off at 2:07 in round 3.
