DAVAO CITY – Featherweight Peter “Thunder” Apolinar of Makati landed body blows to score a unanimous decision against Juanito “El Kapitan” Paredes of Iloilo in the main event of the Kumbati 9 last March 27 at the IPI Compound in Mandaue City.
Judge Edgar Olalo scored it 98-92 while judges Romar Embodo and Noel Flores both saw it 99-91 all for Apolinar.
It was Apolinar’s 14th win against one setback while Paredes suffered his 7th loss against eighth wins and one draw.
Meanwhile, super lightweight Carlo Bacaro remained undefeated after beating Allan Villanueva by unanimous decision in the main supporting event.
Bacaro scored his 8th straight win while Villanueva suffered his first loss after 11 wins.
Olympian and former world title challenger Mark Anthony “Da Baby Boy” Barriga of Panabo City retired Junuel “Artroboy” Lacar of Gen. Santos City in the 4th round.
It was the first comeback fight by Barriga since he lost in December 2018.
The other bouts, former world-rated Arthur Villanueva of Bacolod scored a unanimous decision victory against Bryan Tamayo of Samar while Benny Canete of Cebu beat Reycar Auxilo.
The bubble boxing event is promoted by Pio Castillo Jr. of Omega Boxing Promotions.
