An overmatched bantamweight Richie ?Magnum? Mepranum has been knocked out in the 2nd round by unbeaten, world-rated Luis ?Pantera? Nery before more than 5,000 fans at the Auditorio Municipal in Tijuana, Mexico.
A three-punch combination by Nery who is ranked No. 2 by the WBC, No. 6 by the WBA, and No. 10 by the WBO, dropped Mepranum for the full count at :41 seconds of the round.
The Filipino who is not known to have any power in is fists was slow to get up and had to be helped by ring doctors.
In a post-fight interview Nery said ?we are ready to go for the world title? even as he said promoter Fernando Beltram of Zanfer Promotions would soon reveal the news about a title shot.
Nery thanked his fans for their support and indicated ?I am very happy with my performance.?
With the win Nery improved to 21-0 with 15 knockouts while southpaw Mepranum dropped to 33-6 with 8 knockouts.
In his last fight, Mepranum retired in thew 8th round in a super flyweight title fight against Carlos Cuadras in Sinaloa, Mexico on April, 23 while Nery routed David Sanchez who retired in the 4th round of a scheduled ten round bout f or the WBC Continental Americas title last July 30.
