Jimmy Paypa pulled the rug out from under the more experienced Bernabe Concepcion to take away Concepcion?s WBO Oriental super bantamweight title Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, Metro Manila.
Paypa, from the ALA Gym of Cebu, scored a knockdown in the first round and eventually prevailed by split decision. Concepcion is a two time world title challenger and got his latest regional title last year with a TKO win over Juma Fundi of Tanzania. Paypa had previously lost in his attempt to win a regional crown when he was KO?d by Japanese Shingo Wake in Tokyo last year.
Paypa is now 18-3-1, Concepcion suffers his seventh career loss against 34 wins and 2 draws.
Paypa?s stablemate Arjan Canillas lost to Roberto Gonzales of the Touch Gloves Boxing gym by TKO due to a cut in the 7th round.
Canillas was previously undefeated with thirteen wins and two draws. Gonzales (27-2,17KO?s) wins the Philippine lightweight title and scores his seventh straight win since back to back losses in 2012.
